On 26th and 27th February, European Historic Houses hosted the kickoff meeting for our newest project: CliP – ComE, Climate Protection Competences for European Historic Houses.
EHH, together with the European Heritage Academy, recognised the urgent need for owners of historic houses to both integrate their houses into national climate and energy policies and to control their energy costs while protecting their property from climate damage.
In order to organise the activities for the next two years, the group met for two days to discuss their strategy, but not everything was technical conversations. On Monday all the partners enjoyed a private visit to one of the most sought-after town houses in Brussels due to its architectural style and owner’s privateness: Maison Saint-Cyr.
This property, designed by Gustave Strauven in 1901 and renovated as recently as 2011, was originally the house of painter Georges de Saint Cyr and only became listed as a historic monument in 1988 because of its unique Baroque Art Nouveau style, so it was a good opportunity for the partners to be introduced into the world of historic houses.
